Date: May 23, 2023 to May 25, 2023
Time: 8:30 Registration
Location: Ingersoll 122 and Watkins Hall rooms 275/285

The 2023 MOVES Open House is being held in Ingersoll 122 from May 23–25, 2023. The Open House events (other than the demos) are also being streamed virtually. Contact Perry McDowell for virtual meeting login information.

There will be briefs from MOVES faculty and students, other NPS personnel, as well as many others involved in modeling and simulation. For more information, see the agenda.

The highlight is demo night, which is being held Wednesday, May 24, in Watkins Hall rooms 275/285. Come and have a sandwich on us while and trying out our faculty and students' work in virtual and augmented reality, AI, human factors, and other areas. This is always a great time to find out what's new in modeling and simulation, as well as catching up research efforts on campus.

Defense Energy Seminar

Date: June 6, 2023
Time: 12:00 – 12:50 p.m.
Location: MAE Auditorium, Bldg #255

Energy Academic Group: Defense Energy Seminar Series Lecture

Lecture Title: Sustainable Energy Generation: Nanotechnology for Enhancing Power, Durability, & Upcycling of Ion Exchange Fuel Cells

Speaker:
Miriam Rafailovich, PhD, Director, Garcia Center for Polymers at Engineered Interfaces, Stony Brook University

Abstract:
Global energy consumption is predicted to increase by around 50% within the next 30 years, and there is a necessity for the continuous growth of renewable sources of energy to achieve a sustainable future. A hydrogen economy based on renewables like hydrogen production, storage, and conversion to electricity is considered a promising solution for the future. The rapid rise in offshore energy generation has also spurred interest in saltwater electrolysis, and fuel cells, which can efficiently process the gas streams generated to integrate seamlessly into the grid. Finally, responsible engineering also requires us to consider upcycling of components, reduction of costs, and durability.

Naval Innovation Exchange (NIX) Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS) Exploration Workshop

Date: June 8, 2023 to June 9, 2023
Time: 0800
Location: NPS

With the overarching design challenge “How might we identify and prioritize intelligent autonomous systems (IAS) research and development opportunities of the most interest to Naval leadership and align work with affiliated warfare center projects and industry partners?” Small teams of junior officers, academic subject matter experts, and engineers from warfare centers will explore this future problem space, and with tools of warfighter-centered design will generate prioritized lists of opportunities for mutually beneficial projects. The four focus areas include: 1) Role of IAS in Contested Logistics, 2) Best Practices in IAS Research and Acquisition, 3) Strategic Integration of IAS in Mission Sets, and 4) IAS NEXT Technology & Workforce. Please note that this opportunity is only available to NPS students, faculty, DoD personnel and contractors.
